Chess is one awesome game.

Chess has been played all around the world for hundreds of years—and it is still exciting every single time you sit down at the board. You can learn the basics quickly, then keep finding new things to try.

What happens in a lesson?

For $50, you'll get a full hour of virtual chess fun with me! Every lesson is relaxed, interactive, and made to help you feel more confident at the board.

You'll complete a short intake survey, and I'll create a customized lesson plan that meets you exactly where you are on your chess journey.

Ready before we play

Before your lesson, you'll receive an overview of your proposed plan, plus reminder texts and emails with a calendar invite and virtual access link.

Play & practice

We'll solve puzzles, play practice games, and talk about smart, kind sportsmanship. Lessons are non-refundable but fully transferable—and make a great gift!

The Teacher

Hi, I'm Xavier!

I'm a Brooklyn kid, a rising 7th grader at Dock Street School for STEAM Studies, an honor-roll student, and a proud member of my school chess team.

I've been playing chess for more than six years, and I play in tournaments and chess events in New York City and Washington, D.C. My current rating is around 1060, but I'm always learning new things—and that's my favorite part!

I've played 25+ US Chess-rated games in at least five tournaments since 2023, and I'm always working on my next great move. Check out my tournament dashboard below to follow my rating progress and results!

The Cause

Chess for Rome!

I'm playing for a chance to explore Italy.

From April 22–30, 2027, I'll travel to Rome with my classmates from Dock Street School for STEAM Studies. I'm excited to experience ancient history, incredible art, and the energy of a new city in person.

Our EF school-trip experience is designed to bring history to life—think ancient Rome, major landmarks, local culture, and learning outside the classroom. My goal is to raise $5,000, and every lesson helps pay for the trip.
